INNOVATIVE AND SUSTAINABLE SOLUTIONS FOR PRIORITY AND EMERGING POLLUTANTS REMOVAL THROUGH ADVANCED WASTEWATER TREATMENT PROCESSES (SUSTINWATER)
The SUSTINWATER project objective is to develop a technical and eco-design integrated approach for the synthesis and use of innovative inorganic/organic composites for simultaneous removal of priority (PPs) & emerging (EPs) pollutants from wastewater, reducing environmental impacts of materials and of wastewater discharges.
Project concept:
- Project specific objectives are:
- Design, synthesis, characterization & testing of multi-functional composite sorbents
- Monitoring of EPs&PPs and assessment of technical &environmental performances of advanced wastewater treatment (AWWT)
- Use of eco-design principles&environmental performances evaluation for the overall innovative material cycle design, synthesis, testing, reuse
- Disseminating research results at international/national level, promoting researchers’ interdisciplinary skills.
SUSTINWATER novel features are:
- To obtain environmentally friendly composite sorbent for EPs & PPs removal
- Simultaneous removal of heavy metals (PPs) and pharmaceuticals (EPs) from synthetic & real wastewater
- Correlation between AWWT technical and environmental performances, in terms of process analysis &removal efficiencies, sorption in batch and column modes, sorbents reuse
- Application of eco-design principles & life cycle assessment to reduce environmental impacts for the overall material cycle.
Project Dissemination:
- 6 articles published in ISI ranked journals,
- Presentations at 5 international conferences,
- 3 scientific reports,
- 2 research stages,
- 1 website.
