All of them were realized completely and in time, which led to the achievement of the 2021 project objectives and overcoming of the project results indicators. A brief description of these activities is presented in the following paragraphs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The first activity (A.1.1.)<\/strong> refers to analyzing the technical and environmental peformance of existing advanced treatment processes for eliminating priority and emergent pollutants from wastewater.  For this, a technical analysis was performed which has included the correlation between the process steps, the technological scheme and the pollunta removal efficiency. Selected advanced treatment processes for the removal of model polluntants were presented along with their efficiency. In the next step, life cycle assessment was used to analyze several complex sustainability profiles of these advanced treatment processes. Activity A.1.1. ends with a planning of the most important elements and needed to evaluate the environmental performance of the innovative materials synthesis and testing developed to eliminate priority and emergent pollutants from wastewater.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Activity A.1.2.<\/strong> presents 2 synthesis methods to obtain innovative materials which feature an inorganic core and a polymeric outerlayer. the syntheses routes have incorporated: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>a) a multi-stage protocol based on the layer-by-layer (LbL) deposition method (IS \/ (PC\/PA)n) which was controlled by the deposition conditions (no. of polymeric layers) and the type of deposited polymeric material, and <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>b) a single-stage protocol by depositing a co-acervate which was formed <em>in-situ<\/em> from poly-electronic complexes (IS\/(PC\/PA)c). The coacervate structure was controlled by the polymeric structure (by combining PA with PC) and the initial polymeric concentration. These organic structures were stabilized via chemical cross-linking and thermal treatment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Activity A.1.3. information regarding the characterization of the newly sythetised materials is presented.
